Been awhile and donations

Since I last updated the news IE9, Firefox 5] and Chrome 12 have all been released. I have also had an email asking me to mention BrandThunder and ThunderThemes which let you create and share your own themes for IE, Firefox and Chrome.
As for the website I have added in the ability to create a suggestion url for generated plugins (registered users only), and I will look at doing the same for uploaded plugins. I am also on the hunt for donations as the site is not free to maintain but is free to use and it is my intention to try to keep it advertising free. If you want you can donate through PayPal or use one of my custom plugins linked to an affiliate account. More information on donations here. Finally thanks to everyone who continues to use the site.

Features Update

The first one lets you use non-Latin based languages in the title of your search plugin (e.g. Cyrillic) when using the <a href=""http://www.searchplugins.net/generate.aspx">plugin generator. The only known problem with this is if you edit the plugin you will need to add the title back in. You can also upload, (only registered users can upload), Mozsearch compatible plugins and they will be converted to the OpenSearch format, not all of the Mozsearch parameters are supported. Feed back and / or bug reports would be useful for both features.

more fixes

I was getting problems with some search plugins not being created / updated because ASP.Net was returning a 'The server committed an HTTP protocol violation' error. I have now fixed this problem with help from this post. There seems to be a feature, (or 'bug'), in .Net which won't allow HTTP headers it considers to be 'unsafe' through. I have also fixed sorting by date issues with the plugin list and recently updated plugins list.

searchplugins.net launches

Welcome to searchplugins.net - the place where you can find, create, edit and manage search plugins for IE7 and Firefox2.
searchplugins.net features a search plugin generator which makes it easy to create search plugins compatible with IE7 and Firefox2. Any search plugin you create is stored in a public list - unless you register then you can make search plugins viewable only by you - so other people can use the search plugins which are created.

Confused by mentions of IE7 and Firefox2 or about what a search plugin is then have a look at the FAQ where some of your questions may be answered.

Even though searchplugins.net has just launched there are still ideas to be included in the site, so additions and changes will always be on the horizon. Some of the future additions will include:

Ability to add tags to the search plugins to make them searchable on more than just the title

With tags will come the ubiquitous tag cloud

A generated page so registered users can let friends and family install your private plugins

Generated code for registered users to be able to display a list of their search plugins on a website

Ongoing improvements to the code and use of the site

Of course if anyone has an idea or suggestion for searchplugins.net then they can always let me know. To keep up with developments and news on the site then subscribe to the newsfeed, because, like trying to keep the site advertising free I also want to keep it mailing list free. For more information on how you can help support searchplugins.net then see the 'About' page.

Of course any website is only as good as its users so here's to the future users and search plugin creators - thankyou and let's make this the resource for IE7 and Firefox2 search plugins on the web.
